Observations Before Reading Revelation

Some observations to be aware of concerning the old covenant of law and the new covenant of grace as you read Revelation…

1. Revelation has over 400 references to the old covenant of law.

2. The judgments are directly connected to Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28-32 concerning the law-based judgments upon OC Israel.

3. When the judgments are poured out, the ark of the covenant that contains the Ten Commandments are see by John in heaven (Rev 11:19 and 15:5).

4. The confusing imagery is cleared up if we familiarize ourselves with the use of the exact same imagery by the Hebrew prophets when judgment was poured out upon Israel and the nations during the time of the covenant of law.

5. The words of Jesus in Matthew 24-25, Luke 19, 21, and 23 about the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple are repeated in Revelation.

6. According to Paul in Galatians 4:25, the Jerusalem of his time was producing law-based slaves and had rejected the New Covenant of Grace.

7. The vengeance upon first-century, OC, Christ-rejecting Israel that Jesus said was coming upon Israel and Jerusalem is what we are reading about in Revelation (Luke 21:20-24 NKJV).

8. This vengeance occurred in AD 70 when the Roman armies destroyed Jerusalem and the temple just as the Babylonian armies did during the days of Jeremiah in 586 BC.

9. Heaven is no longer pouring out vengeance on Israel or the nations as in the OC age.

10. If the OC law-based judgments were in our future, God would have to pause the new covenant of grace and reinstall the old covenant of law.

12. Heaven is now and forever pouring out the new covenant of grace on all nations where people can drink of the free gift of the water of life by believing in Jesus.

13. We are eternally living in the new covenant age of grace…the law is not going to be used by God in the future to judge Israel or the nations.
