Jesus Said Old Heaven And Old Earth Passed Away When The Law Passed Away - Matthew 5:17-18

In Matthew 5:17-18, Jesus said,

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished."

Observations...

After Jesus fulfilled the Law of Moses...

After Jesus accomplished all things...

...the law would be abolished

...the law would disappear

...heaven and earth would disappear.

Questions...

Has Jesus fulfilled the Law? Yes

- Jesus fulfilled Exodus, Leviticus, and Deuteronomy.

- Jesus fulfilled the Law and the Prophets.

Has Jesus accomplished all things relating to the law? Yes

Results...

The law has been abolished.

The law has disappeared.

- There are no more sacrifices needed for the forgiveness of sins because Jesus was the final sacrifice.

- There are no more law-based feasts to observe because Jesus fulfilled the feast days.

- There is no more need for a law-based temple in Jerusalem because Jesus is the chief cornerstone of the spiritual temple of grace (Ephesians 2:11-22).

Question

Has heaven and earth passed away? Yes

The heaven and earth Jesus was specifically referring to was old covenant, law-based heaven and earth.

This heaven and earth has passed away.

This heaven and earth has disappeared.

The new heaven and new earth of the new covenant grace of God has come!

This covenant was established by Jesus when he shed his blood on the cross for the forgiveness of sins and was raised to life for eternal life.

There are no more old covenant, law-based judgments being poured out from heaven to earth.

Grace is now being poured out from heaven to earth.

Those who place their faith in Jesus receive the forgiveness of sins and have eternal life.

This is the new heaven and new earth of Revelation 21-22.
