Why Is Jesus Described As Greater Than The Angles And Lower Than The Angels In Hebrews?

Hebrews 1 describes Jesus as greater than the angels.

Hebrews 2 describes Jesus as lower than the angels.

Why?

As Son of God, Jesus is greater than the angels because he is fully God (Hebrews 1).

As Son of Man, Jesus is lower than the angels because he is fully human (Hebrews 2).

Son of God means having the nature of God.

Son of Man means having the nature of man.

To be the mediator between God and humanity, Jesus had to fully represent God and fully represent humanity.

In Hebrews 1 and 2, the writer of Hebrews explains that Jesus is 100% God (greater than the angels) and 100% human (lower than the angels, yet was without sin).

Therefore, he is qualified to be the mediator between God and humanity so he could establish the new covenant of grace.
