The Wrath of the Lamb - Future or Fulfilled? Revelation 6:15-17

The word "Lamb" is used 29 times in Revelation referring to Jesus.

John the Baptist described Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29, 36).

When Jesus died, he took away the sin of the world (2 Corinthians 5:18-21; 1 John 2:2) and established the new covenant of grace which ended the old covenant of law.

Many in Israel believed in Jesus.

However, most rejected Jesus.

Starting with Stephen in Acts 6-7, those in Israel who rejected Jesus persecuted and killed those in Israel who believed in him.

Unbelieving Israel arrested, imprisoned, and killed believers of Jewish synagogues throughout Israel and the Roman Empire.

Jesus said this would happen (John 16:1-4).

Jesus also said wrath would come upon unbelieving Israel (Luke 21:20-24).

God gave unbelieving Israel 40 years (AD 30-70) of grace to believe in Jesus before the final old covenant judgment was poured upon them.

At the end of the 40 years, judgment came on old covenant Israel when Jerusalem was left desolate and the temple was destroyed.

This judgment is known as the wrath of the Lamb (Revelation 6:15-17).

Revelation 6:15-17
And the kings of the earth [Greek word is also translated as land, referring to the land of Israel], the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks,

“Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the
WRATH OF THE LAMB! For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”

Jesus spoke some of the exact words when talking to the women of Jerusalem:

Luke 23:28-30
“Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children. For the time will come when you will say,

‘Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’ Then

“ ‘they will say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!” ’

Luke 23:28-30 is directly connected to Revelation 6:15-17 and is about the Lamb pouring out the final old covenant wrath on unbelieving Israel in AD 70.

This was the wrath of the Lamb.

The wrath of the Lamb, Revelation 6:15-17, has been fulfilled.
