The Experiences And Effects Of Trauma

The Experiences of Trauma

People experience trauma in many places, from many people, and in many ways.

A common experience of trauma for many people is from abusive relationships and adversarial environments.

The first experience people have with trauma is typically in childhood.

Childhood trauma normally begins with abusive adults who have authority over children.

Children experience trauma in...

...families

...schools

...churches

...athletics

and many other areas.

Trauma occurs for many in their adulthood.

A common thread in child and adult trauma is the lack of lovingkindness from others.

Taking the place of lovingkindness is harsh and angry treatment.

The Effects of Trauma

Trauma effects people's self-worth, leaving them feeling like they have:

...no worth

...no value

...no hope.

Many times those traumatized feel rejected, alone, and sad.

They have difficulty relating to God and others in a healthy way.

They feel rejected by God and others.

They reject themselves.

Some who have experienced trauma may look healthy on the outside, but inside they are carrying much pain.

Healing From Trauma

Healing for those traumatized begins as they experience healthy, loving environments where kindness, goodness, and patience from others is given.

Love creates peaceful and joyful environments where healing can happen.

Healing continues when those traumatized are treated with worth and value.

We can help foster these healing and healthy environments of love, peace, and joy by showing kindness, patience, and gentleness to others, and treating them with value and worth.

If you have been traumatized, my heart goes out to you.

I am truly sorry for what you have experienced.

My prayer is that you have a healing experience and a healing environment...

...an experience and environment of love and joy.

I am not sure if a person ever heals completely from trauma, but I pray your journey to healing begins with:

..knowing you are loved, accepted, and valued by God

…knowing God takes joy in calling you his son or daughter

…and knowing God loves having you in his family of grace!
