Revelation 16, 17, and 18 Are The Fulfillment Of Matthew 23:34-38 In AD 70

Compare the words of Jesus in Matthew 23:34-38 concerning Jerusalem’s killing of the believers and prophets with Revelation 16:16, 17:6, and 18:24 where the blood of the prophets was found.

Matthew 23:34-38 (Christian Standard Bible)

Jesus said to the leaders of Israel:

"This is why I am sending you prophets, sages, and scribes.

Some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town.

35So all the righteous blood shed on the earth [Greek word is also land, referring to the land of Israel] will be charged to you, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar.

36Truly I tell you, all these things will come on this generation. Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her.

How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

38See, your house is left to you desolate."

Revelation 16:6

For they [Jerusalem] have spilled the blood of the saints and prophets, and You have given them blood to drink, as they deserve.

Revelation 17:6

I could see that the woman [Jerusalem] was drunk with the blood of the saints and witnesses for Jesus. And I was utterly amazed at the sight of her.

Revelation 18:24

And there was found in her the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who had been slain on the earth [the Greek word is also land, referring to the land of Israel].

The judgment Jesus foretold in Matthew 23:34-38 upon first-century Jerusalem was fulfilled in Revelation.

Revelation 18 describes the fall of the Great City (the prostitute, Mystery Babylon = first-century Jerusalem in AD 70).

Revelation 11:8 defines the Great City as first-century Jerusalem.

Revelation 11:8

Their bodies [the bodies of the two witnesses who warned Jerusalem of God’s judgment to come to be carried out by the Roman armies] will lie in the street of THE GREAT CITY—figuratively called Sodom and Egypt—where their Lord was also crucified (Jerusalem).

In Revelation 18, the Great City is Jerusalem (Revelation 11:8) judged by God under the old covenant of law for their abominations and shedding the blood of the saints.

This judgment in AD 70 fulfilled Matthew 23:34-38.
