Insights Into The Old Covenant Judgments In Daniel and Revelation
For insight into the judgments of Revelation upon old covenant Israel from AD 66 to 70, read Daniel 9.
Daniel 9 contains the old covenant judgments poured out on Judah, leading to the burning of Jerusalem and the temple by the Babylonian armies in 586 BC (see 2 Chronicles 36; 2 Kings 25; Jeremiah 52; Lamentations).
In Daniel 9, Daniel requests God's forgiveness for Israel's transgressions of the law.
Daniel is then given a 490 year prophecy which results in the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple.
The final fulfillment of this prophecy is contained in Revelation.
Revelation is the final old covenant prophecy poured out on old covenant Israel.
This final judgment resulted in the burning of Jerusalem and the temple in AD 70 by the Roman armies.
In Daniel 12, Daniel is given additional information concerning the future of the people of Israel and Jerusalem but was told TO SEAL the prophecy because the prophecy would not be fulfilled in his time (Daniel 12:4, 9).
In Revelation, John was shown the fulfillment of the prophecies contained in Daniel.
However, John was told NOT TO SEAL the prophecies because their fulfillment was near (Revelation 22:10).
The fulfillment of the prophecies of Daniel 9 and 12 and Revelation occurred from AD 66-70 when Jesus came on the clouds against old covenant Israel through the Roman armies (see Matthew 24:30; 26:64).
Jerusalem and the temple were burned and destroyed in AD 70, concluding the prophecy Daniel was told TO SEAL and John was told NOT TO SEAL.
Note: For coming on the clouds in judgment of old covenant Israel (Judah), read Jeremiah 4, paying close attention to God advancing on the clouds against Judah through the Babylonian armies in Jeremiah 4:13.
