Cleansing The Conscience (Hebrews 9:14)

Our conscience is the consistent internal voice condemning us for wrong behaviors and thoughts, while also approving good behavior and thoughts.

Not only does our conscience condemn us of present wrong behaviors and thoughts, but also our conscience will consistently condemn us for the wrong behaviors and thoughts of our past.

This consistent condemnation weighs heavy on us, many times keeping us stuck in our guilt and preventing us from moving forward.

This guilty conscience can also cause a sense of distance from God and disapproval by God.

How do we precede in life when our conscience consistently condemns us?

Hebrews 9:14 provides the answer.

"How much more, then, will THE BLOOD OF CHRIST, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, CLEANSE OUR CONSCIENCES from acts that lead to death, so that we may worship the living God!"

The only way we can move forward in life when our consciences consistently condemn us is knowing the blood of Jesus has cleansed us from all sins and has brought us close to God.

Ephesians 2:13 says,

"But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by THE BLOOD OF CHRIST."

The blood of Jesus was God's payment for our guilt (Romans 3:22-25).

The blood of Jesus forgives all sins (Ephesians 1:6-8).

The blood of Jesus cleanses from all sins (1 John 1:7).

Through faith in Jesus, we receive:

-God's payment for our sins

-God's forgiveness of our sins

-God's cleansing of our sins

By living each day in the knowledge of the blood of Jesus, we can experience a cleansed conscience that enables us to no longer be stuck in our guilt but move forward in his grace.

Our conscience is a gift from God to alert us to right and wrong, good and bad, and healthy and unhealthy.

However, a conscience not combined with grace will keep us stuck in guilt so we cannot move forward in life.
