The Two Sons of Abraham: Which One Are You Connected To?

In Galatians 4:21-31, we read about two sons of Abraham, Ishmael and Isaac.

Son #1: Ishmael

- Ishmael represents a works-based, law-based approach for righteousness and relating to God.

- Ishmael is connected to Mount Sinai where the law was given.

- Ishmael is connected to earthly, physical Jerusalem where the law was practiced.

- Ishmael represents slavery to a works-based, law-based approach for righteousness and relating to God.

Son #2: Isaac

- Isaac represents a grace-based approach for righteousness and relating to God.

- Isaac is connected to Jesus and the heavenly Jerusalem.

- Isaac is connected to faith in Jesus for righteousness.

- Isaac is connected to freedom from the law and freedom in Christ.

If you are a believer in Jesus, you are connected to Isaac not Ishmael.
