Is There a Terrible Holocaust Soon To Come That The World Has Never Seen? (According To David Jeremiah There Is!)
This weekend I listened to David Jeremiah teaching through Revelation.
He said a terrible holocaust was SOON TO COME which the world has never seen.
Millions and millions will die.
He placed this holocaust during the time of the great tribulation that he says is in our NEAR FUTURE.
Is this true?
David's understanding is the great tribulation was not fulfilled during the generation to whom Jesus spoke about the great tribulation.
However, Jesus stated the tribulation would come during the time of the generation to whom he spoke (Matthew 23-24, Mark 13, Luke 21).
The tribulation period would include persecution of believers that Jesus spoke about in John 15:18-16:4; Matthew 10:16-23; Luke 21:12-19.
This tribulation occurred in the generation following the ascension of Jesus when unbelieving Israel persecuted believing Israel.
Jesus said he would come in judgment upon those persecuting believers during this time (Matthew 26:64) and destroy both Jerusalem and the temple, marking the end of the old covenant era.
Jesus' judgment occurred in AD 70 when the armies of the nations of the Roman Empire destroyed the temple and Jerusalem.
This is the same type judgment when God came in judgment using the armies of the Babylonian Empire to destroy the temple and Jerusalem in 586 BC (2 Chronicles 36; read also Jeremiah and Lamentations).
Jesus coming in judgment not only marked the end of the old covenant era, but it ended the great tribulation period.
Since the great tribulation ended during the time period leading up to AD 70, there is no great tribulation coming soon, in our near future as David Jeremiah teaches.
Unfortunately, David has added himself to the growing list of Bible teachers who:
- ignore the time statements of Jesus by placing the great tribulation in the soon-to-come, near future...
and who...
- misunderstand the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation that place the time of the tribulation during the generation of the Roman Empire and unbelieving Israel concluding in the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple in AD 70.
This list includes:
-Hal Lindsey (1970's)
-Chuck Smith, Billy Graham (1980's)
-John Hagee (1990's to the present time)
-Tim LaHaye (1990's, 2000's)
-Jonathan Cahn (present time)
-Robert Jeffress (present time)
-Max Lucado (present time)
David Jeremiah and these men have been proclaiming a soon-to-come, near-future great holocaust since the 70's.
However, this time was soon to come in the near future of the generation to whom Jesus spoke.
