God Has Established His Temple On The Earth
In the Bible, the theme of the temple is significant.
Let's examine this theme.
The Garden of Eden was temple-like in that it was the dwelling place of God in his relationship with humanity.
However, sin caused Adam and Eve, along with all humanity, to be removed from the presence of God.
God then established his presence among the people of Israel through the tabernacle constructed by them.
Eventually, under the leadership of Solomon, the people of Israel built the temple in Jerusalem.
However, the temple was destroyed in 586 BC by the Babylonian armies when God sent the armies to judge Israel.
Later, Zerubbabel rebuilt the temple, and then Herod expanded it.
Once again, Israel corrupted the temple.
This corruption occurred during the life of Jesus.
Jesus pronounced judgment on the leaders of Israel and the temple, saying "no stone will be left upon another."
Judgment on the temple was carried out by the Roman armies when God sent the armies to destroy it.
This occurred in AD 70. (Click Here to learn more about AD 70)
Between the time of Jesus and the destruction of the temple, Jesus began building a third temple.
Yet this temple was not a physical temple built by human hands but was, and continues to be, a spiritual temple built without hands - see Daniel 2.
Paul wrote about this temple in Ephesians 2:11-22.
This temple is the spiritual temple of grace where the presence of God dwells.
The spiritual temple consists of believers in Jesus from all nations who are being assembled together to be the dwelling place of God among the nations.
