Blotting Names Out Of The Book Of Life

The first mention of the Book of Life is in Exodus 32:23-33 when God said about the people of Israel that he will blot out of his book whoever had sinned against him.

Being blotted out of the Book of Life is also mentioned in Psalm 69:28.

Psalm 69:28 states that the Book of Life lists those who are righteous.

The unrighteous are blotted out.

Daniel 12:1-4 picks up on the theme of the Book of Life when the angel said that those whose names were written in the Book of Life would be delivered from the great tribulation poured out on old covenant Israel.

The names written in the Book of Life were those who were led to righteousness.

The rest would be judged during the time of great tribulation...the time of great distress.

Exodus 32, Psalm 69, and Daniel 12 all have in common old covenant, sinful Israel.

In John 15:25, Jesus quoted Psalm 69:4 concerning first-century, sinful Israel who hated him.

Unbelieving, first-century Israel would hate and kill those in Israel who believed in him (John 15:18-16:2).

Jesus quoted Daniel 12:1 in Matthew 24:21, Mark 13:19, and Luke 21:23 concerning the great tribulation (distress) that would be poured out on first-century, old covenant, Christ-rejecting Israel.

The great tribulation or great distress is fulfilled in Revelation.

Revelation 20:11-15 contains the Book of Life.

Those whose names were written in the Book of Life, also called the Lamb's Book of Life, were judged as righteous.

Those whose deeds were written in the books were judged as unrighteousness.

Revelation 20:11-15 fulfilled Daniel 12:1-4.

Those whose names were not blotted out of the Book of Life were those who believed in Jesus as the Christ and trusted in him for righteousness.

Based on Exodus 32:23, God would blot out of the Book of Life those who sinned against him.

Based on Psalm 69:28, only the righteous are listed in the Book of Life.

Paul explained in Romans that all have sinned.

However, Jesus took our sinfulness upon himself at the cross and offers his righteousness as a gift.

Righteousness is received by faith.

Therefore, those who have faith in Jesus are not blotted out of the Book of Life but are listed with the righteous.

However, those who reject Jesus and his gift of righteousness, as most of first-century Israel did, are removed from the Book of Life.

It's my understanding that Revelation 20:11-15 was fulfilled in AD 70 when God judged old covenant Israel - the fulfillment of Daniel 12, Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21.

It was at this time the Book of Life (Lamb's Book of Life) was opened containing the names of those who had faith in Jesus.

The books were also opened containing the deeds of those who rejected him.

The opening of the Book of Life and the books was the Great White Throne Judgment that took place after judgment on old covenant Israel in AD 70 when Jerusalem and the temple were destroyed.
